Two blood drives are scheduled for Jay County this month.
With severe blood shortages nationwide, the American Red Cross is asking donors to make appointments.
Blood drives in Jay County are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 13 at IU Health Jay and 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 15 at Jay County Fairgrounds (the blood mobile at the Jay County Fair.)
Donors can schedule an appointment using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling (800) 733-2767. A donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
As a thank you, donors who give between July 7 and 31 will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card and a chance to win free gasoline for a year.

Portland First Church of the Nazarene will host The Faithful Sons Quartet in concert on Independence Day.
The performance is scheduled for 10:45 p.m. Sunday. The church is located at 920 S. Shank St.
Coming to Muncie
Muncie will be included on magician Michael Carbonaro’s tour that begins in September.
Carbanaro, a magician and “performance bizarrist,” will kick off his tour Sept. 24 in Reno, Nevada. The Muncie show is scheduled for Oct. 22 at Ball State University’s Emens Auditorium, and other stops include Newark, New Jersey, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.

Minnetrista has opened registration for summer camps for children ages 8 through 14.
Young cooks camps are scheduled to begin Monday for 8 through 10 year olds and July 12 through 16 for 11 through 14 year olds.

Racing camp set
Jayland Trotting Association will partner with Harness Horse Youth Foundation to hold a one-day camp Aug. 5 at Jay County Fairgrounds.
The camp will feature hands-on activities involving the organization’s stable of trottingbred racehorses. Participants will learn about caring for horses, harnessing and equipment. They will also get to jog a racehorse alongside a professional driver.
No experience is necessary, but participants must be at least 11 years old. The cost is $35, and pre-registration is required by July 15 at hhyf.org. For more information, contact [email protected] or (317) 908-0029.

The summer arts program for school-aged children offers classes in 14 communities, including Portland, Dunkirk, Redkey, Pennville and Fort Recovery. Classes, which are open to children ages 6 through 18, are $5 each with a maximum of $30 per child for the summer.
Information on the classes available in each community are available online at artsland.org. Classes, which range from a single day to a full week, continue through the end of July.
