Senior learning will take a field trip this month.
Instead of being held at the facility in downtown Portland, John Jay Center for Learning’s Senior Learning Series will be held this month at the Jay County Fair.
The event is slated for 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Women’s Building at the Fairgrounds. Jane Spencer of Jay County Historical Society will be the presenter as she shares “Travel Through History With the Post Card Collection of George & Alta Cull.”
Next month’s senior learning series presentation, the first to be held at John Jay since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 5. Justin Curley of Jay County’s Purdue Extension Office will discuss building a mini greenhouse.
On the list
A Fort Recovery High School graduate has been named to the dean’s list at Miami University.
Morgan Litmer, a university studies major from Fort Recovery, earned the honor for the spring semester. In order to be on the dean’s list, students must rank in the top 20% of undergraduate students in their division.
Applications open
LifeStream Services is accepting applications for its Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Vouchers.
The vouchers can be used to purchase items such as beans, peppers, tomatoes, apples and other fruits and vegetables from qualifying locations. They are worth $20 and are provided by the state on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To be eligible, applicants must be 60 or older and meet income guidelines.

Planetarium open
Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University is now open again for public shows.
The planetarium will host “We Are Stars” on July 15 and 16, and “To Space & Back” on July 22, 23, 29 and 30. All shows begin at 6:30 p.m. Masks are required.
Registration for the free shows is required by visiting brownplanetarium.eventbrite.com. The planetarium is located at 2111 W. Riverside Ave., Muncie.
