Rema J. Shepherd, age 75, Dunkirk, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at home following an illness.
Born Nov. 19, 1945, in Lee County, Virginia, she lived the past several years in Dunkirk. Rema was a homemaker and attended Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Dunkirk. She, along with her husband and others, sang in a traveling gospel group known as The Singing Shepherds for 20 years. She enjoyed ceramics, collecting salt and pepper shakers, growing house plants and spending time with family.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, James E. Shepherd; sons Mike Shepherd (wife: Cindy), Redkey, and Brian Shepherd (wife: Nicci), DeSoto; brothers Eugene Cooper (wife: Darlene), Atlanta, Indiana, Gary Cooper (wife: Sherry), Indianapolis, and Jerry Cooper, Houston; sister Dianna Helton, Oxford, Michigan; grandchildren Ashley Taylor, Portland, Casey Croyle (husband: Tim), Spangdahlem, Germany, Autumn Shepherd, Dunkirk, Elias Shepherd (with Anika Thoopthong), Tampa, Florida, and Garrett Shepherd (with LeAnna Vore), Dunkirk; honorary grandson Jayden Watson, Dunkirk; great-grandchildren Blaze Shepherd, Kynleigh Folkerth, Layne Croyle, Khloe Croyle, Garriksyn Shepherd, Odin Croyle and Waylon Shepherd; special friends Kelly and Dan Watson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie & Dollie (Fields) Cooper; brothers Bobby Cooper and Carlie Cooper, and sister Vera Wynn.
Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Meacham Funeral Service. Cremation will follow.
Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
