Michael Holton
Obituary
Michael Gilbert Holton of Redkey, Indiana, passed away at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, on July 15, 2021, after a battle with cancer.
Born to Gilbert Donald and Carol Lee (Abels) Holton in Minneapolis on Oct. 15, 1952.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mike is survived by his son, Michael Joseph Holton (wife: Mandy) of Ladson, South Carolina; three sisters, Patti Walden of Waialua, Hawaii, Teresa Morrison of Quincy, California, and Kathy Holton of Beaumont, Texas. Mike is survived, and will be dearly missed by several nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated from high school in Hawaii and served in the United States Air Force. Mike was a member of American Legion Post 401 in Redkey, Indiana, and Voiture 988 of The Forty And Eight.
Mike was an electrician by trade and worked for Tyson in Portland in plant maintenance until his retirement. However, Mike’s true passion was music. From an early age, his mother sang and performed in shows on stage with Don Ho in Hawaii, and Mike began his love of music at a very young age. Mike played in bands pretty much his entire life, in Hawaii, California and many other locations throughout his life.
In 1997, Mike and his teenage son moved to East Central Indiana and over the years he formed and was a player in several local bands in the area. In the years he lived in Northern California, he sat in on jam sessions in Bakersfield, California, with Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, among many other musicians.
With music being such an integral part of his life, a celebration of life was held Sunday at Val’s Bar and Grill and friends were encouraged to bring a guitar and sing or play a song for him. Interment of cremains will be held, along with a full military honor guard funeral detail at a later date at The Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made towards his services in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel.
