Darrell Henry

March 8, 1948-July 20, 2021

Darrell G. Henry, 73, a lifetime Redkey resident, husband, father and grandfather, died suddenly on July 20, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. 

Darrell was born on March 8, 1948, at Jay County Hospital to the late Charles and Velma (Garringer) Henry. Darrell married Patricia (Mumbower) Henry, whom survives, on Oct. 14,1966.

Darrell had two children, the late Dawn Mize and Kelly G. Henry. Darrell was a 1967 graduate of Redkey High School. Darrell was drafted into the Army where he served in Vietnam. After the Army, he started employment with Teledyne Portland Forge, then retired after 40 dedicated years of service.

Darrell was an active VFW, American Legion and Masonic Lodge member. He was famous for his woodworking ability, craftsmanship, love of nature, honey bees, his all natural homemade honey, “Zeke's Monster Burger's” and his 1977 Ford High Boy “Old Red.” Darrell enjoyed watching the Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers, going to the lakes, hunting, fishing, listening to country and oldies music, and a cold Busch beer. Although he appeared to have a tough exterior, deep down he had a soft spot for his Jack Russell Terriers, cat Chloe and his precious grandchildren who he loved to tease

 Darrell is survived by his wife, Patricia (Mumbower) Henry of Redkey, Indiana; one son, Kelly G. Henry (wife: Kelly M.) of Redkey, Indiana; four grandsons, Cameron C. Henry of Redkey, Indiana, Noah Mize of Enon, Ohio, Carter C. Henry of Redkey, Indiana, and Cohen C. Henry of Redkey, Indiana; two granddaughters, Kristen Strohofer of Enon, Ohio, and Cadly M. Henry of Redkey, Indiana; one great-grandchild, Gabriel Strohofer of Enon, Ohio; and one brother, Dean Henry of Westville, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dawn Mize; one brother, Dewayne Henry; and one sister, Peggy Ann Henry.

Darrell will be truly missed.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel, in Redkey, Indiana. Burial will be held at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey, Indiana, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jay County Cancer Society. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel.
