Band events scheduled

This week is all about the band.
Coming off of band camp this week, the Jay County High School Marching Patriots have another busy week ahead, beginning with the Drums at Winchester contest tonight and continuing with its annual ice cream social and then the Indiana State Fair competition.
Drums at Winchester kicks off at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Winchester Community High School. Jay County is slated to take the field at 7:24 p.m.
The Marching Patriots will then host their annual ice cream social from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at JCHS. Their state fair preview show will follow at 8:30 p.m. at Harold E. Schutz Memorial Stadium.
Indiana State Fair Band Day follows Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. Jay County High School will take the track at 10:54 a.m.
Awards are scheduled for 4:15 p.m., with the top 16 bands returning to the track to perform again later in the evening.
Entries open
A statewide poetry organization is looking for all of those and more.
Poetry Society of Indiana is accepting entries for its annual poetry contest.
The contest features 23 categories, with prize money for the top three in each. The entry fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The deadline is Sept. 1.
Winners will be announced during Poetry Society of Indiana’s Fall Rendezvous, which is scheduled for Oct. 29 through 31.

Drive underway
Our Home Family Resource Center is again hosting its Back-to-School Supply Drive.
The drive serves to provide school supplies to more than 200 children in Mercer County, including Fort Recovery. Items needed include book bags, folders, facial tissue, markers, pencils, erasers, pens and highlighters. A full list is available for online shopping at a.co/g9zhUwf.
Donations will be accepted through Aug. 12 at Our Home, 117 W. Fayette St., Celina, Ohio. Volunteers will sort and pack donations, which will be available for pick-up Aug. 17 and 18 at Celina First Church of God.
