He was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Portland to Francis W. and Grace (Prescott) Jenney.
On Sept. 17, 1977, he married Glenda J. Brookshire in Marion, North Carolina.
She survives along with a daughter, Elizabeth (Lewie) Hummel, Goshen; a son, Mark (Samantha) Jenney, Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Sawyer, Sylvie and Stella Hummel; a brother, Jim (Kristi) Jenney, Portland; and a brother-in-law, Randy Heston, Portland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Heston.
A 1970 graduate of Portland High School, John went on to study at Purdue University and Ball State University. He was an active member of Goshen Christian Church where he taught Sunday School, sponsored the youth and served on the missions committee.
For 34 years, John was the Miller at Bonneyville Mill County Park. He was also a member of SPOOM (Society for the Preservation of Old Mills) and the National Association of Interpretive Naturalists.
Quiet and humble in nature, he was so proud of his children and their spouses. He adored his three precious grandchildren and loved any time he could spend with them. He and his wife enjoyed watching birds in the backyard, visiting with friends and neighbors in the driveway, tinkering and wood working and seeing neighbor kids play in the fairy garden in his yard. He was honored to be able to receive ordination to perform the marriage ceremony of his son and daughter-in-law in Sedona, Arizona. John had a heart of gold and a love for Jesus.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A noon Friday funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral service.
