Collin Haines continued to finish as the best Titan golfer.
Haines, a 2018 Jay County High School graduate, led the Indiana University-South Bend men’s golf team during the Heritage Hill Collegiate tournament this weekend at Heritage Hill Golf Course in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
The former Patriot shot 3-over-par 75 in the first round, which was three strokes behind the leaders. He shot a 76 on the second day to finish with a total score of 151, ending in a five-way tie for 13th overall.
Matthew Chapman of Marian shot even par 144 to win the championship, as he led the Knights to the team crown of 587.
Nick Hayden, a 2017 JCHS graduate, finished the tournament with a score of 165 (83, 82) and was 36th overall.
IU-South Bend scored 640 to place last out of eight teams.
Anhely Montes
Jay County – 2020
Recorded a season-high number of shots for the Anderson University women’s soccer team Wednesday in a 5-1 victory against Manchester.
The freshman forward came off the bench to play 38 minutes, and took a pair of shots. Neither of them were on frame.
Montes has appeared in three games for the Ravens and taken three shots.
Simon Brumfield
Jay County – 2017
Competed for the Wabash College men’s track team Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
He was 15th in the discus with his distance of 30.79 meters (101 feet). He reached the distance on his first toss, and wasn’t able to go further on the final three.
Brumfield also placed 18th in the shot put, again reaching his greatest distance on his first toss. He had a throw of 8.83 meters (28 feet, 11.75 inches).
The Little Giants scored 265 points for first place in the six-team field.
Cade Wendel
Fort Rec. – 2019
Had his longest outing of the season Saturday but suffered another loss pitching for the Lake Erie baseball team.
Wendel lasted six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one in a 2-0 loss to Cedarville in the first game of a doubleheader.
In 9 2/3 innings, Wendel has a 6.52 ERA with eight strikeouts and three walks. He is set to start again for the Storm on Saturday against Findlay.
Robby LeFevre
Fort Rec. – 2019
Ran for the Fordham University men’s track team as it hosted its season-opening CO-VID Invitational.
The freshman was 13th in the 200-meter dash with his time of 23.54 seconds. Stony Brook’s Patrick Abel won the race in 22.14 seconds.
LeFevre also ran as part of the Rams’ 4x100 relay, which did not finish the race.
Max Moser
Jay County – 2018
Played for the Huntington University baseball team in a doubleheader Saturday against Bethel.
In game one, a 7-6 loss, Moser hit a pinch-hit double. He drew a pinch-hit walk in the second game, a 5-2 victory.
In nine at-bats this season, Moser has two doubles, a walk and an RBI with three strikeouts.
