Twenty-five years ago today, Jamie Glassford kept her streak of three-win performances going as the Jay County High School track teams hosted the Jay County Invitational.

The May 4, 1996, edition of The Commercial Review featured coverage of the track invitational, which included wins from Glassford in the 100-meter dash, 200 dash and long jump. The Patriot girls and boys teams both finished second behind Anderson Highland.

The triple victory was the seventh in a row for Glassford. She took first place in the 100 dash in 12.69 seconds, the 200 dash in 26.44 seconds and the long jump at 16 feet. (She would go on to earn a medal with a ninth-place finish in the long jump at the state finals.)

Glassford had won two championships at the invitational in 1995.

Danna Shumaker matched the meet record in the high jump as she cleared the bar at 5 feet, 2 inches. Julie Lowe added a victory in the 3,200 run in 12 minutes, 27.1 seconds. The Patriot girls also won the 4x100 relay.

Jason Hammond set a meet record in earning one of the two individual titles for JCHS. He was first in the long jump at 21 feet, 4 3/4 inches.

The Patriots’ other win came from David Byrum with a height of 10 feet, 6 inches, in the pole vault.

Jay County’s boys were also first in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
