MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Indians already had a lead.
They put the game out of reach in the sixth.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team scored six insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning Friday in a 10-1 win over the host Marion Local Flyers.
The Indians improve to 14-9 on the year and 3-2 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Fort Recovery led 2-1 after the first inning before adding a run in each of the second and fifth frames.
The Tribe hit four singles and a double, walked twice and benefitted from one Flyer error in plating a half dozen runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Brenna Homan led the FRHS offense with a double and a single, while Chloey Grisez had two singles and an RBI. Sophie Pearson knocked in two runs on two hits.
Kensey Gaerke doubled with an RBI. Jackie Homan finished with a single and two RBIs, and Britney Tebbe also had a single.
Jackie Homan earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings. She struck out three and didn’t issue a walk. Tebbe threw the final two innings, giving up one hit and striking out a pair.
Jay delayed
Jay County’s baseball team had its game with Adams Central postponed after four innings on Friday.
The Patriots (6-4, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) were trailing 2-0.
A date to resume the game is to be determined.
Adams Central broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning on a pair of errors. Chase Murray singled and moved to second on the first error and moved to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring on another defensive mishap by the Patriots.
Two innings later, Murray hit a single to score Blake Heyerly, who reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second on a groundout.
Murray had the Jets’ only two hits.
Sam Myers had a pair of singles for the Patriots, and Austin Curts had a single as well.
Jay County’s best scoring chance came during the second inning when Kess McBride, a courtesy runner for Curts, reached third before being left stranded.
