Marines celebrate 246 years Sunday
U.S. Marines Corps have been operating for 246 years.
Local soldiers will be honored for their service at an annual event Sunday.
The Museum of the Soldier will be honoring all U.S. Marines, veterans or currently serving, beginning at 2 p.m. Family members of Marines not present will also be recognized.
Refreshments will be available, with a cake-cutting ceremony to follow the program. There will also be an exhibit with U.S. Marine Corps uniforms and equipment from 1904 through present day.
Community members are invited to attend the free program in remembrance and recognition of the service and sacrifices made by Marines. For more information, call (260) 729-7017 or visit the museum’s Facebook.
Stringing Stricagnoli
Luca Stricagnoli will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Hall-Moser Theatre at the Performing Arts Center on the Jay County Campus of Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.
Stricagnoli, a native of Italy, is an acoustic guitarist who is known for his innovative playing techniques. He recently released his new album “What if?,” which includes him playing a new guitar he invented.

Library events
Hunts, games, dogs and crafts are all on the schedule for this month.
Jay County Public Library has a variety of activities scheduled for November, including a duck hunt beginning Monday. Children can search for a variety of plastic ducks hidden around the library. They can bring the duck they find to the desk for a prize and take the duck home with them.
The month’s activities also include:
•National Games Week — Games will be placed around the library from Nov. 7 through 13.
•Children’s Book Week — The library’s Facebook page will feature interactive posts Nov. 8 through 14, with more features available at everychildareader.net/cbw.
•Paws and Pages — Children can register to read to Sonny the Chihuahua, a certified therapy dog, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Nov. 16. Those interested can register at the library, 315 N. Ship St., Portland, or by calling (260) 726-7890.
•Thanksgiving crafts will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 24, and Legos will be set up to play with from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 26.
November is also National Writing and National Family Stories Month.
The library will have family story kits available Nov. 15 that will provide resources and materials to help families document their stories.
