COLUMBIA CITY — The Patriots were part of history.
They came up short on the ninth tie-breaking criteria.
Jay County High School’s girls wrestling team fell to the Columbia City Eagles on Thursday, 31-30.
It was the first all-girls wrestling dual in state history.
The team scores were locked at 30 at the completion of all matches. But Columbia City was awarded the victory. The ninth criteria states the team with the most first-points scored will be declared the winner. The Eagles fit the bill, giving them the extra point.
Mallory Winner earned Jay County’s fastest victory, pinning Lainey Wooley 46 seconds into their 160-pound match. Dakota Chowning also had a first-period pin, defeating Jaidyn Gilbert in 71 seconds at 120.
Tricia Ison pinned Tabitha Barcus at the end of the first period at 170, and Lizzie Dollar (113) pinned Alexes Spaulding as second-period time expired.
Willow Hardy (126) won by forfeit.
