BRAZIL — The Patriots fell to the Eagles in the first all-girls wrestling dual in the history of the state Thursday.
Two days later, the Patriots got the best of their newfound rival.
Jay County High School’s girls wrestling team claimed two individual championships on its way to the team title in the Northview Invitational on Saturday.
Jay County, which lost a tiebreaker to Columbia City in the historic matchup Thursday, scored 103 points for the championship. Columbia City was the runner-up four points behind, and Warren Central scored 82 points for third.
Senior Lizzy Dollar was first in her weight class, while freshman Mallory Winner earned the first title of her career.
Tricia Ison was second, while Jayla Huelskamp, Lilly Lothridge and Mattie Affolder each took third. Emily Manor finished fourth, and Mollie Hines was fifth.
Also competing were Dakota Chowning, Willow Hardy, Lina Lingo, Elizabeth Nuuckols and Adrienne Denney.
Jay girls third
WESTFIELD — Jay County’s girls swim team placed third Saturday in the Westfield Invitational.
The host Shamrocks won with 658 points, with Yorktown (467) second and Jay County (450) third.
Junior Mara Bader earned the team’s only individual victory, earning a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with her time of 1 minute, 12.89 seconds. She was also fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Maddy Snow placed third in diving, one spot ahead of teammate Natalie Wehrly.
Emily Dues placed fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 50 freestyle. Hannah Laux ended sixth in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 100 freestyle, while Abigail Johnson placed sixth in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 freestyle.
Kenzie Huey had two top-eight finishes, taking sixth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Elayna Paro was sixth in the 50 freestyle, as Zion Beiswanger (100 freestyle) and Aubrey Millspaugh (100 backstroke) were seventh in their respective events.
Fort opens with loss
CONVOY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls basketball team wasn’t able to keep up with a 3-point barrage from Cali Gregory in a 41-33 loss to the host Crestview Knights on Saturday.
Gregory matched Fort Recovery with 11 points in the first quarter in helping the Knights to a four-point advantage. Two more triples before halftime aided Crestview in taking a 27-18 lead at the break.
Fort Recovery (0-1) outscored Crestview 15-14 in the final two quarters but by then the deficit was insurmountable.
Mara Pearson scored a team-high 14 points for the Indians, who got 10 points from Whitley Rammel and six from Alexis Wendel.
Gregory finished with five triples and a game-high 21 points.

UNION CITY — The Jay County Junior High School seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams swept the Union City Indians on Monday.
The eighth graders earned a 28-8 victory, while the seventh grade squad picked up a 30-7 win.
Raylah Newton and Rinah Cross had eight points each in the eighth grade contest. Mya Kunkler contributed six points, Alexis Sibray scored four points and Lani Muhlenkamp tallied two in the victory.
Lizzie Brunswick led the effort for the seventh grade squad by tallying 10 points. Gabi Petro followed with eight points as Natalie May and Amiela Heath ended with six points apiece.

YORKTOWN — Jay County’s elementary wrestling team went 4-1 Sunday to finish as the runner-up at the Yorktown Elementary Duals.
Jay County lost the opener to New Palestine 57-30 before topping the host Tigers (52-30), Columbia City (60-27), Alexandria (45-36) and All-Star Team (66-24).
Khoden Bentz, Jackson Bonifas, Brenna Ruble and Freddie Lingo were all 5-0 on the day, while Morgan Abernathy and Max McClain each went 4-1. Varen Ridgway ended 3-1, while Blake Wood, Maddox Byrum and Bryce VanSkyock were all 3-2.
