Alex Bader added her name to the Cardinal record book three more times.
Bader, a 2018 Jay County High School graduate, posted the third-fastest individual time in program history and helped a pair of relays crack the top five times for the Ball State University women’s swim team in the Hall of Champions Thursday through Friday at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
The senior was first Saturday in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2 minutes, 15.35 seconds, good for third-best in BSU history.
On the previous day, she joined Shelby Crist, Hannah Jones and Apsara Sakbun to win the 200 medley relay in 1:43.3, the fifth-best time in program history.
On Thursday, Abby Hartshorne, Bader, Jones and Askbun were runners-up in the 400 medley relay, turning in the third-fastest time in Cardinal history at 3:44.03.
Additionally, Bader had an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.86) and was 18th in the 50 freestyle.
Ball State scored 1,347 points for second place out of nine teams. Illinois scored 1,364 points for the win.
Vivienne Kunkler
Jay County – 2019
Earned a NAIA National B standard and accounted for three wins for the Bethel University women’s swim team in a 136-114 victory against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday.
Kunkler’s national cut came in the 100-yard breaststroke, in which she was first with a time of 1 minute, 9.89 seconds. She also had a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.36) and joined Emma McClelland, Kayla Logeais and Elisabeth Wolfe for a victory in the 200 medley relay. Kunkler swam the breaststroke leg in 32.26 seconds, helping the squad to a time of 1:56.74.
The sophomore junior was also part of the 200 freestyle relay that was second.
