James Crouse
Obituary
James E. Crouse, age 83, of Portland passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Jay County on Aug. 16, 1938, the son of Donald and Martha (Abbott) Crouse. He was married on June 26, 1960, to Mary Miller who survives.
Jim was retired from Berne Furniture and had also worked at Anchor Hocking. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Portland, graduated from Saratoga High School and served in the National Guard. Jim loved camping, fishing and watching wrestling, and was an avid Indianapolis Colts and University of Notre Dame fan.
Surviving are his wife Mary; three sons, Ed Crouse (wife: Tina) of Fort Wayne, Randy Crouse (wife: Alisia) of Pennville and Jeff Crouse (companion: Neva Cole) of Berne; two sisters, Louise Gelzleichter of Portland and Sue Paxson of Anderson; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Crouse.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Cecil presiding. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the services.
