Jay Co. girls blank Trojans

ARCADIA — The Patriots are moving on.

Jay County High School’s girls soccer team shut out the New Castle Trojans on Tuesday, 7-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A Sectional 24 tournament at Hamilton Heights.

The Patriots (9-4-1) advance to the sectional semifinal against the Delta Eagles at 7 p.m. tonight. Delta defeated Jay County 4-1 Sept. 21.

Mara Bader scored a career-high four goals, marking the second consecutive game she’s notched at least a hat trick. She now has 20 goals this year.

Morgan DeHoff, Molly Muhlenkamp and Jenna Dues also had goals for the Patriots.

The 5 p.m. semifinal tonight pits 15th-ranked Hamilton Heights against Yorktown. The sectional final is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday.



Jay drops match

DALEVILLE — Jay County’s volleyball team dropped a match to the Daleville Broncos on Monday, 11-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-5.

Abbie Fields had a dozen kills to lead Jay County (10-14). Madison Dirksen was second with 11 kills, while Madison Brunswick and Kylie Klopfenstein had five kills apiece.

Brenna Haines recorded a team-high 26 digs. Grace Brewster and Hannah Muhlenkamp had 13 digs each. Izzy Rodgers ended the night with 19 assists.

Jay County’s junior varsity team won, 25-24, 25-13. Bella Denton’s eight kills were tops for the squad, which also got seven kills from Maggie Dillon. Mady Fraley and Dillon tallied seven digs each, while Sophie Saxman finished with 11 service points and seven aces.



Patriots both 2-1

Jay County Junior High School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both went 2-1 Saturday as hosts of the Patriot Invitational.

The eighth grade team beat Bluffton (25-10, 25-9) and Adams Central (25-15, 25-18) before losing to South Adams (25-7, 25-20). The seventh graders beat Bluffton (25-6, 25-12) and South Adams (25-13, 25-20) but lost to Adams Central (25-11, 25-15).

Lilly Johnson led the eighth graders with 18 points in the tournament, and Liz Barnett chipped in 16 points.

Lydia Johnson’s 23 points were tops for the seventh graders. She also had four kills. Chloe Muhlenkamp was second with 15 points.

On Monday, Jay County’s eighth graders defeated Monroe Central 25-11, 25-10. Cami Barnett led the team with 17 service points and eight aces. Mya Kunkler totaled four kills.

The Patriot seventh graders lost to Monroe Central 11-25, 25-17, 20-18. Lydia Johnson’s 12 points were most on the team, and Ella Rigby was second with nine points.
