Will Homan had a successful spring season.
He started the year with a bang.
Homan, a 2018 Fort Recovery High School graduate, scored a pair of touchdowns for the University of Saint Francis football team in its 45-34 victory against Judson University on Sept. 18.
The senior scored the Cougars’ first touchdown of the year — he did the same during the spring season, which was moved because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic — on a 1-yard carry just 2:41 into the contest.
Then, late in the fourth quarter, Homan again had a 1-yard TD which gave the Cougars a 45-34 advantage it held until the end of the game.
Homan had 20 carries for a game-high 113 yards. He also caught two passes from Heath Simmons for a total of 13 yards.
A week later, Homan had two carries for eight yards before leaving with an ankle injury as St. Francis lost to Saint Xavier 38-0.
Paige Fortkamp
Fort Rec. – 2021
Has emerged as the top offensive player for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team and has become one of the top attackers in the country through the first six weeks of the season.
The freshman outside hitter has racked up a team-high 268 kills for the Cougars (4-18), which ranks 13th in all of NAIA and is four kills away from the top 10. She has 100 more kills than any of her teammates.
The former Indian has posted 20 or more kills four times, including a career-high 26 kills during a 3-2 loss to Spring Arbor on Sept. 22. She’s totaled double-digit kills in all but five matches so far this season.
Fortkamp has recorded career highs of digs (five) and aces (two) on two separate occasions. She’s also totaled a career-high five blocks Sept. 11 against Huntington.

Both participated for the Tiffin women’s cross country team.
On Oct. 1, Will had her best finish of the season by ending 13th during the Tiffelberg Open the Dragons hosted. She crossed the finish line of the 6K race in 25 minutes, 19.7 seconds to end as Tiffin’s third-best runner. Guggenbiller ended 41st in 29:33.9
Will took 42nd in 22:02.4 during the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern on Sept. 4. Guggenbiller had a time of 24:36.8 for 60th as Tiffin scored 67 points for third. Findlay won with 41 points.
In the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville on Sept. 17, Will ended the 6K race 42nd (26:38.5). Tiffin placed seventh.
Will placed 34th during the Findlay Invitational on Sept. 24. Her 6K time of 25:52 was fourth-best for the Dragons, who were third out of nine teams. Guggenbiller (29:53) was eighth.
Travis Sutter
Fort Rec. – 2017
Ran for the Ohio Northern University men’s cross country team in three races this season.
In the Polar Bear Invitational on Sept. 4, Sutter finished 19th overall in 19 minutes, 29.5 seconds. He was seventh on the Polar Bears, who were runner-up with 45 points to Findlay’s 41.
On Sept. 17 in the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville, the senior took 54th in the 8K race with his time of 28:53.9. ONU was fourth with 110 points, as John Carroll won with 27 points.
Sutter was 133rd in 26:33.8 during the Louisville Classic as the Polar Bears were 16th out of 42 teams.
Anhely Montes
Jay County – 2020
Has appeared each of the first 10 games to start the season for the Anderson University women’s soccer team.
The sophomore registered her first shot of the season Sept. 15 in a 2-1 win against Bethel University. Three days later she had a shot in the Ravens’ 1-0 loss to St. Mary’s College.
On Sept. 25, Montes started for the first time this season against Calvin College, but she did not register a shot in the 5-1 defeat. She matched her career high of two shots as the Ravens (4-5-1) defeated Earlham College on Wednesday.
Vivienne Kunkler
Jay County – 2019
Helped the Bethel University 200-medley relay team earn an NAIA National A standard on Saturday in a season-opening tri-meet with Aquinas College and Davenport University.
Kunkler joined Sara Hyska, Kayla Logeais and Elisabeth Wolfe to win the race in 1 minute, 53.16 seconds. Kunkler had a breaststroke split time of 32.09 seconds.
She was also runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 50 freestyle for the Pilots.
Bethel lost to Aquinas 161-37, and suffered a 133-89 loss to Davenport.
Chloe Trissel
Jay County – 2018
Appeared in 15 matches so far for the Indiana University-Kokomo women’s volleyball team as it started the year 14-8.
The senior totaled a season-high two assists and three digs Aug. 28 against Kentucky Christian before adding another three digs the same day against Lincoln and during a match against St. Mary of the Woods on Sept. 28.
She tallied two aces against Lincoln as well for the Cougars.
Ethan Theurer
Jay County – 2018
Played for the University of Saint Francis football team in its 45-34 win against Judson on Sept. 14.
The senior had one tackle and one sack for a three-yard loss.
On Sept. 25, Theurer finished with three tackles, including two solo stops.
The former Patriot ended with three tackles again on Oct. 2 as the Cougars (1-2) fell to Sienna Heights, 27-17.
Cassidy Martin

Recorded a pair of kills for the University of Findlay volleyball team Sept. 18 in a 3-0 win against Dominican. She also had one dig.
During a 3-0 victory over Bluffton Sept. 21, Martin ended with two blocks. She added a kill for the Oilers (10-2) against Lake Erie on Saturday
