Michael R. Collins, 60, Dunkirk, loving husband, father and grandfather, died on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis after a two-year battle with a rare clotting disorder.
Michael was born on Jan. 9, 1961, in Muncie, Indiana, to Wilbur “Ray” and Jeanene (Herron) Collins. He graduated from Wes-Del High School in 1979 and later from Ivy Tech with an associate’s degree in business administration. Michael finished his working career at FCC (Indiana) in Portland after 11 years of employment.
On July 4, 1997, he married Denise Sewell and together they made their home in Dunkirk and also took in many displaced teens over the years. Mike was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Muncie and was a sports fanatic who loved golf, football, NASCAR and many others.
Surviving are his loving wife of 24 years, Denise R. Collins; children Josh Collins (Cassie), Tyler Sewell (Chastity), Nath Collins (Shay), Travis Sewell and Freedom Sewell; his mother and father Jeanene and Ray Collins; brother Rick Collins (Shelley); sister Candy Collins; mother-in-law Dolores Fry; four brothers-in-law, Jeff Sewell (Beth), Anthony Jernigan (Sara), Chad Fry (Amanda) and Zach Fry; three sisters-in-law, Sharmon Jernigan, Rita Alice Applegate (Curtis) and Brittany Fry; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dale Caffee; uncle Eddie Collins; and uncle Ron Herron.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Gant Funeral Home, 109 W. Elm St., Gaston, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Coady Owens at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1200 W. Riverside Ave. in Muncie. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery, Albany.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, Indiana.
