INDIANAPOLIS — For the third time in five years, the Patriots will open the postseason on the road.
In the IHSAA tournament pairings show Sunday, the Jay County High School football team received a road game against the Mississinewa Indians.
Jay County (3-5) opens Class 4A Sectional 20 play on Oct. 22 in Gas City against the Indians (5-2), who are the only team in the sectional field with a winning record. The winner advances to the sectional semifinal against either the New Haven Bulldogs (3-5) or the Huntington North Vikings (2-6).
Other quarterfinal games have the Wayne Generals (2-6) hosting the Marion Giants (3-4), while the Delta Eagle (4-4) entertain the South Side Rebels (1-6).
The semifinal round is slated for Oct. 29, with the sectional championship on Nov. 5.
Jay County has only played one other team in its sectional field, suffering a 45-13 loss to Huntington North on Aug. 27.
Tribe seeded No. 4
Fort Recovery’s volleyball team received the No. 4 seed in the OHSAA Division IV Van Wert district tournament draw Sunday.
The Indians (9-10) will host No. 12 seed and Midwest Athletic Conference rival St. Johns Blue Jays at 5 p.m. Oct. 19 in the sectional semifinal, with the winner advancing to play the No. 3 seed Crestview Knights at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Lincolnview in rural Van Wert.
The No. 2 seed Lincolnview Lancers will play in the 5 p.m. Oct. 21 sectional final against either No. 6 seed Wayne Trace Raiders or No. 10 seed Lima Perry Commodores.
Sectional champions advance to the district semifinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Van Wert.
The top half of the bracket has the top-seeded and fifth-ranked St. Henry Redskins receiving a bye to the sectional championship. They’ll host the winner of No. 8 seed Kalida Wildcats and No. 9 seed Temple Christian Pioneers. The No. 5 seed Marion Local Flyers, who were tied for 19th in the most recent coaches’ poll, play 11th-seeded Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in the sectional semifinal, with the winner advancing to take on Ottoville at St. Henry.
Those sectional winners meet in the district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The final is slated for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
