Obituary
Paul R. Martin, age 78, a resident of Portland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at IU Health Ball Hospital in Muncie.
He was a 1961 graduate of Madison High School. He retired in 2004 from maintenance after 26 years at Jay County Hospital and also worked for Portland True Value. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church where he served the Community Thanksgiving Dinner for over 26 years. He was a 10-year veteran of the National Guard.
Paul was very active in our community as a board member for Jay County Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the Morning Optimist Club and was co-chairman of the Jay County Fair Queen Pageant for 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. He taught CPR at Jay County Hospital for over 26 years.
Paul Martin was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Portland, the son of Paul and Eva (Hathaway) Martin. He married Helen Shaver on May 1, 1971.
Survivors include:
His wife — Helen Martin, Portland
Two sons — Douglas Martin, Portland, and Nathan Martin (wife: Brenda), Portland
One brother — David Martin (wife: Linda), Portland
Three sisters — Cheryl Myers, Mary Brotherton (husband: Wayne) and Eva Lou Enyart, all of Portland
Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dallas and Darren Martin.
Visitation will be will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral home in Portland with services to follow at 8 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church or Jay Randolph Developmental Services.
