Obituary
Ralph A. “Tony” Hudson, 70, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, while in the company of family members at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
Tony was born in Portland, Indiana, on Feb. 16, 1951, a son of Almeda A. (Edmundson) Smith and the late Ralph E. Hudson. He attended El Dorado School in Anderson, Indiana, and was employed for over 24 years by Prestress Services Inc. as a steel bender until his retirement in 2013.
Tony was the loving husband of Melinda S. (Pierson) Hudson who he happily married on May 29, 1982. He was a quiet man with a warm and selfless disposition who would do anything for you, tease on occasion and always had a hug ready. He was a member of the Coca-Cola Collectors Club of Atlanta and Boy Scouts of America, and enjoyed Coke collecting, playing cards, Farkle, Solitaire, field trial dog racing, trees, nature, California redwood trees, animals, Elvis Presley music, ghost hunting, trips to Graceland and Branson, Missouri, demolition derbies, tractor pulls and his dog Roxie.
Tony is survived by his mother, Almeda A. Smith (husband: Thurl); wife Melinda S. Hudson; daughter Sarah A. Rees (husband: David A.); son Rex A. Hudson; three brothers, Roscoe (Jake) Smith (wife: Susan), James “Mike” Smith (wife: Donna) and Kelly Smith; sister Linda Soultz (husband: Kyle), two sisters-in-law, Mary Wilson (husband: Gary) and Margaret Pierson; brother-in-law Michael Pierson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph E. Hudson; stepfather Thurl Smith; sister Joyce Hudson; and mother- and father-in-law, Rex and Helen Pierson.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at 2 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel with Pastor Debi Howell Officiating. Burial will follow in Pennville IOOF Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jay County Humane Society or The Arbor Day Foundation.
