Obituary
Rodney Weesner, age 54, a resident of rural Dunkirk passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie from COVID-19. He was a 1986 graduate of Jay County High School.
Rodney owned and operated Hoosier Excavating and was a self-employed farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and volunteered with the Jay County 4-H. Rodney was a member of the United States Auto Club (U.S.A.C.) and enjoyed racing with the series.
Rodney Weesner was born Jan. 25, 1967, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Harry and Anita (Henthorn) Weesner.
Survivors include:
Two daughters — Katelyn White (husband: Cody) and Abigail Weesner, both of Portland
One son — Caleb Weesner, Dunkirk
His mother — Anita Orr, Redkey
Three sisters — Dawn Shoaff (husband: Bill), Coral Springs, Florida, and Maria Baker and Kristy Clark, both of Portland, Indiana
One brother — Wade Weesner (wife: Marci), Trafalgar, Indiana
His fiancé — Elizabeth Norris, Dunkirk, Indiana
Three bonus children — Kennedy (fiancé: Brandon) Norris, McKall Norris and Kaden Norris, all of Dunkirk, Indiana
Two grandchildren — Sophia and Zayden White and one grandchild due in January
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Weesner; and his stepfather, Dan Orr.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery, Portland. Portland American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of military rites at the cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Jay County 4-H or the Wounded Warrior Project.
