NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Cardinals are the top-ranked team in the state.
On Thursday, the Indians became their latest victims.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team could do little to slow down Division IV No. 1 New Bremen, falling 25-13, 25-11, 25-16.
The win gave the Cardinals (22-0, 9-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) their second league championship in three years. (New Knoxville took the MAC title in 2020).
Fort Recovery, which finished the regular season at 10-11, 5-4 MAC, got seven kills and seven digs from Marissa Gaerke. She was also 8-of-8 serving with two aces.
Whitley Rammel recorded a team-best 12 kills while Faith Wendel had 12 assists. Teigen Fortkamp finished with six digs.
The fifth-seeded Indians will open sectional tournament play at 5 p.m. Tuesday as they host No. 12 seed St. Johns (1-21, 0-9 MAC). The winner will advance to the sectional championship to play the third-seeded Crestview Knights at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Lincolnview.
