Pumpkin festival set for Saturday

It’s going to be a big day for pumpkins.
A full day of activities is planned for Pennville Pumpkin Festival on Saturday at Pennville Park.
The event begins with a 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. (registration starts at 7:30 a.m.) followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m. Breakfast will also be available from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Festival games, activities, food, vendor booths and an antique firetruck show will open at 11 a.m. following the parade and be available until 4 p.m. The costume contest is also at 11 a.m.
There is a chili cook-off at 1 p.m. and a pumpkin dessert challenge at 1:30 p.m.
When the festival activities wrap up, the Pennville Volunteer Fire Department will hold its hog roast from 4 to 7 p.m.
Celebrating
Arts Place will continue its celebration of its renovated and expanded Portland facility with events Friday and Saturday.
The Jay County Campus of Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland, will host a reception for its Cultural Diversity/Biodiversity Juried Art Show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Arts Place will then hold a public open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. It will include a ribbon-cutting, artist demonstrations, crafts and refreshments.
Both events are open to the public.
Meeting set
Jay County 4-H will hold its annual meeting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Bob Schmit Memorial Exhibition Hall at Jay County Fairgrounds.
The meeting will include voting for township representatives and learning initiatives for 2022. All adults are invited to attend.
Nominations may be submitted at the Jay County Purdue Extension office. They may also be made from the floor during the meeting.
