COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team finished fourth in the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Coldwater.
Minster claimed the title with 27 points, and Versailles was a distant second with 92 points. St. Henry had 104 for third while Fort Recovery scored 116 for fourth.
Minster’s boys made it a sweep by scoring 33 points for its title. New Bremen (68) was second and Marion Local (92) placed third. Fort Recovery scored 210 for eighth.
Jenna Hart led the FRHS girls by finishing 10th in 20 minutes, 35.63 seconds. Ellie Will (20:39.19) was one spot behind, and Alexis Wendel (21:46.05) placed 25th.
Joelle Kaup was 30th in 22:03.78, and Megan Diller finished 47th in 22:50.43.
Hart and Will were both first team All-MAC. Wendel earned honorable mention.
Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp was third overall in 17:12.88 to earn first team All-MAC. Ethan Evers (20:00.43) was 56th, Evan Evers (20:28.14) placed 63rd, Caleb Rammel (20:40.44) ended 66th and Aiden Heitkamp (24:47.45) was 115th.
Jay falls in semifinal
DECATUR — Jay County’s volleyball team came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 25-11, 25-13, 25-10 loss to the Wapahani Raiders in the Class 3A Sectional 23 semifinal at Bellmont.
The Raiders, who were the Class 2A state runners-up last season, lost a five-set match to third-ranked Bellmont in the sectional final later Saturday night.
Abbie Fields led Jay County, which finished its season 15-15, with three kills, while Maggie Dillon, Madison Brunswick and Madison Dirksen had two kills apiece.
Brenna Haines collected 12 digs, and Izzy Rodgers totaled nine digs to go with her team-high five assists.
Dirksen also had two assists, and Fields totaled three blocks.
Huelskamp wins MAC
COLDWATER, Ohio — Makenna Huelskamp was the individual champion for the Fort Recovery Middle School girls cross country team Saturday in the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships at Coldwater.
Both Tribe squads did not have enough for a team score.
Huelskamp ran to a winning time of 11 minutes, 51.54 seconds. Maddie Heitkamp was 13th in 13:47, and Kylia Dues placed 33rd in 15:18. Aubrie Heitkamp finished 36th with her time of 15:26.
Parker Brunswick paced the FRMS boys by taking fourth in 11:29. Reese Diller placed ninth in 12:04. Trevor Bergman (12:54) was 22nd and Russell Hart (13:12) placed 31st.
Seven earn gold
CARMEL — Jay County Special Olympics had seven of its 16 teams earn gold medals in the corntoss state tournament Saturday.
Teams earning gold medals were Amanda Bailey and Mackenzie Hollowell, Sam Glessner and Ashley Current, Mark Knipp and Kevin Pugh, Kameron Woodbury and Kevin Woodbury, Ron Smith and Mark Smith, Conner Hoyt and Zach Fullenkamp, and Kurtis Atkinson and Logan Campbell.
Teams earning silver medals were Martha Loper and Troy Atkinson, Cory LeMaster and Jennifer Smith, Haggen Allred and Cassie Dawson and Roseanna Knipp and Sondra Burgess.
Bronze medal winners were Shelly Roser and Tiffany Ridgway, Tyler Lennartz and Abby Coby, Jared Sizemore and Molly Pugh and Michelle Hostetler and Kris Woodbury.
Lana Roberts and Lori Roberts placed fourth.
Fort tops Trojans
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery volleyball team capped its regular season with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 victory against the Arcanum Trojans on Saturday.
Whitley Rammel recorded 15 kills for the Indians (11-11). Marissa Gaerke (nine kills) and Teigen Fortkamp (three kills) also chipped in offensively.
Rammel’s four blocks were tops on the team, with Lilie Leuthold adding three blocks as Mara Pearson and Fortkamp had one block each.
Fortkamp and Rammel shared the team high of four aces. Aubrey Knapke recorded five digs and Fortkamp finished with 14 assists.
Fort Recovery opens district play at 5 p.m. tonight as it hosts Midwest Athletic Conference rival Delphos St. John’s in the sectional semifinal.
