Business roundup

Nearly $1 million is being provided to support health-related projects.

IU Health Foundation announced this week that it has made $971,574 in grants for a variety of projects, including one that will impact Jay County.

Of the grant total, the largest amount — $618,000 — is going to support advances in stroke care and other initiatives at the IU Health Adult Academic Health Center.

IU Health’s East Central Region, which includes IU Health Jay, received $81,820 to help build a new outdoor classroom in Hartford City. It will be used to expand addiction treatment service and enhance chronic disease education for IU Health Blackford, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and IU Health Jay.

“It’s exciting to see the impact our donors can have all across Indiana and in their own backyards,” said IU Health Foundation president Crystal Hinson Miller in a press release. “With these grants, we bring the full force of philanthropy into communities throughout Indiana, equipping our teams to improve the health and well-being of Hoosiers.”

Responding together

McDonald’s and Yum! Brands were among the companies that announced recently they are extending their partnerships with the NextGen Consortium.

NextGen is a program focused on “identifying, accelerating and scaling commercially viable, circular foodservice packaging solutions.” McDonald’s and Starbucks on Wednesday announced an additional $10 million commentiment to the program. On the same day, Yum! extended its partnership with NextGen.

“Through NextGen, we’ve made great progress in growing more sustainable packaging solutions, and there is a lot more work to be done,” said Kate Daly, Managing Director of the Center for the Circular Economy at Closed Loop Partners, which is managing NextGen. Faced with increasing climate risks, eco-conscious customers and a resource-constrained world, the foodservice industry must double down on its efforts and band together to strategically tackle the mounting waste challenge.”
