Paige Fortkamp had once cracked the nation’s top 15 attackers.
She’s slipped a bit, but still among the best in the country.
Fortkamp, a 2020 Fort Recovery High School graduate, finished with 11 kills Oct. 20 for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in a three-set loss to Goshen College.
The freshman also had one dig and assisted on two blocks.
Fortkamp was once 13th in all of NAIA in terms of kills. She currently has 337 kills — at least 100 more than any of her teammates — which ranks her 20th in the country. She averages 3.79 kills per set, which is 23rd in the nation.
Out of 846 attacks, she has 173 errors, which ranks eighth.
The Cougars are 6-21 on the year and 4-12 in Crossroads League play. Saint Francis, which played Spring Arbor on Wednesday (results were not available at press time), closes out the regular season Saturday against No. 18 Taylor in Upland.
Vivienne Kunkler
Jay County – 2019
Earned a NAIA national “B” cut for the Bethel University women’s swim team on Saturday in a 158-104 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.
She was first in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning her national “B” cut with a time of 1 minute, 10.29 seconds. She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.25.
Kunkler handled the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relay, ending with a split time of 1:09.18. The quartet, which included Kayla Logeais, Paula Ronda Bou and Elisabeth Wolfe was runner-up in 4:08.87.
She then anchored the 400 freestyle relay that was fifth in 4:17.08. Kunkler’s split was 1:00.12.

Ran for the Tiffin University women’s cross country team as it competed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Cedarville.
Will turned in a time of 24 minutes, 43.9 seconds, in the 6K race to place 74th overall. She was the third-best runner for the Dragons.
Guggenbiller placed 119th in 28:43.1 seconds.
Tiffin scored 207 points for sixth out of 12 scoring teams. Host Cedarville had 45 points to win, while Alexa Leppelmeier of Walsh was the race winner in 21:19.7.
Will Homan
Fort Rec. – 2018
Scored another touchdown for the University of Saint Francis football team in a 23-21 loss to eighth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
Homan got the scoring started for the Cougars (2-4, 0-3 Mid-States Football Association) by catching a 15-yard pass from quarterback Heath Simmons.
Homan and Simmons connected one more time for 4 yards.
The redshirt junior running back added six carries for another nine yards.
Anhely Montes
Jay County – 2020
Recorded one shot over the span of two games for the Anderson University women’s soccer team in a pair of recent losses.
In a 4-2 loss Saturday to Hanover, the Raven freshman played 41 minutes and tallied her 14th shot of the season.
On Wednesday, Montes logged 53 minutes but did not register a shot as the Ravens (7-7-2) fell to Rose-Hulman by a 3-2 margin.

Contributed defensively for the USF football team in its loss to IWU on Saturday.
The defensive end recorded four tackles, including three solo stops.
His assist came on a tackle for loss, during which he and River Walsh stopped Devodney Alford in the backfield for a 6-yard loss.
