Gary W. Trobridge, age 77, of Portland passed away of cancer Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
He was born in Portland on Aug. 4, 1944, the son of Walter and Marie (Pro) Trobridge. He was married on Jan. 28, 1967, to Phyllis Sue Smith, who survives.
Gary was retired from Fullenkamp Machine in Portland as an engineer, designer and salesman. He also had worked at CTS in Berne. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. He was a member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Jay County Fair Board for 33 years, having served as treasurer for 14 years. He also belonged to Portland Morning Optimists, Jay County FFA Advisory Board, Portland Economical Development Corporation, American Legion Post #211, Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and Vintage Motorbike Club. He was a 1962 Portland High School graduate and 1967 graduate of Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago.
Surviving are his wife Phyllis Sue Trobridge; one son, Greg Trobridge (wife: Kacy) of Flossmoor, Illinois; one brother, Mike Trobridge (wife: Diana) of Portland; one sister, Sharon Craig (Kerry Dailey) of Bryant; one grandson, Griffin Trobridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Kelly presiding. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery west of Bryant.
