After having their winning streak snapped Thursday, the Patriots are back in the win column.
Jay County High School’s boys tennis team held off sectional rival Randolph Southern Rebels on Tuesday, 3-2.
The victory moves the Patriots to 7-5 on the year ahead of an Allen County Athletic Conference tilt at Bluffton on Thursday.
Crosby Heniser got a victory at No. 1 singles against Jake Good, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Abraham Dirksen got a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jake Mifsud.
Gage Simms and Luke Muhlenkamp secured the match by topping Jaxson Latello and Trenton Jefferis 6-1, 6-1.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of brothers Gavin Myers and Sam Myers lost to Vance Taylor and Hagan Gambrel 7-5, 6-2, and Simon Dirksen dropped his No. 3 singles match against Tyler Fink, 6-3, 6-2.
Pair lead Patriots
SELMA — Mara Bader and Gabi Bilbrey each had a goal in leading the Jay County girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory against the host Wapahani Raiders on Tuesday.
Bader tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the first half on an assist from Bilbrey. It was Bilbrey’s second helper this season.
Then in the second half, Bilbrey tallied her seventh goal of the year, which turned out to be the eventual game winner.
Tricia Ison made five saves in goal for the Patriots, who move to 4-2-1 on the year and travel to take on Oak Hill on Thursday.
Jay County’s junior varsity team played to a 1-1 draw. Angel Clairday had the only goal for the Patriots, and Grace Shimp made five saves.
Indians struggle
CELINA, Ohio — The Indians had a tough weekend, going 1-2 at the St. Henry Invitational.
The struggles continued Tuesday.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team suffered its third loss in four matches with a 28-26, 25-9, 25-15 loss to the Celina Bulldogs.
After winning the first four matches of the season, the Indians are now 5-3, while the Bulldogs improved to 8-0.
Marissa Gaerke, Grace Guggenbiller, Whitley Rammel and Teigen Fortkamp all had three kills to pace the Indian offense. Rammel had five blocks to lead the Tribe at the net, and Aubrey Knapke recorded six digs. Kennedy Muhlenkamp tallied 13 assists.
Boys take first
Joseph Boggs and Raif Beiswanger were first and second, respectively, in leading the Jay County junior high boys cross country team as it took first in a meet it hosted with Wes-Del and Delta on Thursday at Hudson Family Park.
Jay County totaled 25 points, leaving Delta a distant second with 48 points. Wes-Del ended with 53 points.
Delta’s girls were the only team to turn in a complete score, ending with 33 points.
Boggs had a time of 12 minutes, 37 seconds, for his victory, and Beiswanger ended in 13:10.
Beckett Bradenburg placed fourth, Dougie Cox was seventh and Max Klopfenstein was 11th.
Alexis Sibray led the Patriot girls by placing third. Emily Young was fourth and Paityn Wendel ended fifth. Kaitlyn Fiser finished eighth.

Jay County’s seventh grade volleyball team bounced back from a first-set loss to beat the Bluffton Tigers, 21-25, 25-21, 15-3.
Lydia Johnson led the Patriots with 18 service points. Brenna Schmiesing had seven points and one kill. Carley Trinidad’s three kills were most on the team. Lucy Mace, Taven Bentley and Chloe Muhlenkamp had three points each.
