BLUFFTON — Joseph Boggs had an individual victory in leading the Jay County Junior High School boys cross country team in a three-team meet with the Adams Central Jets and Bluffton Tigers.
The boys beat Adams Central 24-32, but lost to Bluffton 28-31.
Jay County’s girls did not have enough for a team score.
Boggs had a time of 11 minutes, 41 seconds, for the individual win. Raif Beiswanger was the runner-up, and Beckett Brandenburg finished seventh. Dougie Cox placed 14th while Max Klopfenstein ended 16th.
Alexis Sibray led the Patriot girls by placing second. Emily Young finished sixth, one spot ahead of Paityn Wendel. Kaitlyn Fisher crossed the finish line 17th.
Spikers split
Jay County’s junior high volleyball teams split with RJ Baskett on Thursday.
The seventh graders won 12-25, 25-24, 18-16, while the eighth graders suffered a 25-23, 25-23 loss.
Brenna Schmiesing led the seventh graders with eight points. Morgan Missicano, Lydia Johnson, Chloe Byrum and Chloe Muhlenkamp had four points each. Ella Rigby contributed two kills to go with her three points.
Liz Barnett led the eighth graders with six points and two aces. Elise Mercer contributed five points, and Kayla Jetmore added four points.
Maria Hemmelgarn’s four kills were tops on the team, and Mya Kunkler finished with three kills.
Football splits
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior high football team split games with the Anna Rockets on Thursday.
The seventh grade squad lost 44-16, and the eighth graders got a 22-8 victory.
Grant Fortkamp and Isaac Roessner both had touchdowns for the seventh graders (0-3).
Alex Gaerke scored two TDs for the eighth grade team (2-0-1). He scrambled for one score and returned an interception for the other.
