The Indians weren’t far off from their best round of the season.

The Wildcats were a tad bit better.

Fort Recovery High School’s boys golf team came up short, 172-180, in a match against the Houston Wildcats on Tuesday at Portland Golf Club.

The Indians dip to 3-11 on the season.

Cole Muhlenkamp had the best score for the Tribe, finishing with 43. Isaac LeFevre was one stroke behind, and Zander Kunkler wasn’t far off with 45. Alex Dues shot 48 to complete the team total.

Eli Lennartz (50) and Carson Siefring (59) also competed, but they did not factor into the overall score.

Parker Herrick of Houston was match medalist with his 3-over-par 38.



Tribe sweeps Flyers

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Tribe is back in the win column.

Fort Recovery’s volleyball team rebounded from conference loss Thursday to down the Marion Local Flyers 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 Tuesday in Midwest Athletic Conference action.

Grace Guggenbiller had a team-high nine kills for the Indians (6-5, 3-1 MAC).

Whitley Rammel and Marissa Gaerke had eight kills apiece, and Teigen Fortkamp added five kills.

Fortkamp contributed seven blocks, Rammel had three blocks and Guggenbiller added four blocks. Gaerke’s 12 digs were a team high, and Faith Wendel ended with 15 assists.



Patriots fall to Stars

BERNE — The Jay County volleyball team fell to the South Adams Starfires on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-12, 25-14, at Stardome.

Madison Dirksen led the Patriots (7-7, 2-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) with eight kills, and Abbie Fields added five kills. Brenna Haines had a team-best eight digs, while Grace Brewster and Hannah Muhlenkamp ended with five and four digs, respectively.

Izzy Rodgers tallied 17 assists.

Jay County’s junior varsity team lost 25-22, 25-18. Bella Denton finished with six kills, and Laila Waddell had four kills.



Can’t rally

MUNCIE — Jay County’s girls soccer team wasn’t able to rally from a 3-0 halftime deficit in a 4-1 loss to the Delta Eagles on Tuesday.

The loss drops the Patriots to 6-3-1 on the year.

Gabi Bilbrey scored the lone goal for the Patriots, giving her 13 for the season and the team lead.

Tricia Ison had six saves in goal.



Boggs sets record

Joseph Boggs set a new course record in helping the Jay County Junior High School boys cross country team beat the Southside Panthers on Tuesday at Hudson Family Park.

The Patriot boys scored 18 points as the only team to have enough for a score.

Boggs had a time of 11 minutes, 53 seconds, besting the previous mark of 11:59 set by Mitchell Winner.

Raif Beiswanger took second, while Beckett Brandenburg, Dougie Cox and Max Klopfenstein were fourth through sixth, respectively.

Alexis Sibray won the Jay-only contested girls race with her time of 14:32. Emily Young was second, Paityn Wendel third and Kaitlyn Fisher fourth.



Stars beat Jay

BERNE — South Adams handed the Jay County seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams a loss Thursday.

The Jay County eighth graders fell 17-25, 25-18, 15-6, while the seventh graders lost 25-24, 25-24.

Paisley Fugiett led the eighth graders with nine points, four aces and three assists. Maria Hemmelgarn added three kills and two blocks. Liz Barnett chipped in three aces.

Lydia Johnson had 11 service points for the seventh graders, and Chloe Byrum added five points.
