FORT RECOVERY — The Indians won the opening set rather easily.
The Redskins came surging back.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team fell to the Division IV No. 5 St. Henry Redskins 7-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 on Thursday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The loss drops the Indians to 6-6 (3-2 Midwest Athletic Conference).
Whitley Rammel led the FRHS offensive attack with 17 kills, and Marissa Gaerke was second with 12 kills. Grace Guggenbiller turned in an eight-kill effort.
Kennedy Muhlenkamp’s four aces were a team best, and Rammel’s nine blocks were best on the squad. Aubrey Knapke recorded 13 digs, and Faith Wendel finished with 13 assists.
Raiders beat Indians
The Russia Raiders handed the Fort Recovery boys golf team a 181-191 loss Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
Isaac LeFevre shot 45 for the top Tribe score, while Zander Kunkler and Eli Lennartz each finished with 50. Alex Dues shot 54 for the final mark to the team score.
Cole Muhlenkamp and Reece Evers shot 55 and 58, respectively, but they did not factor into the match score.
Russia teammates Xavier Philpot and Jude Counts shared match medalist at 42.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost, 190-219. Carson Siefring led the Indians with 52, and Brennan Dues was two strokes behind. Drew Backs (56) and Keegan Muhlenkamp (57) also scored for the Indians.
Girls fall to Tigers
The Fort Recovery girls golf team lost to the Versailles Tigers, 197-207, on Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
Jalyn Bruns earned match medalist honors by shooting a 3-over-par 38. Macy Brunswick was second for the Indians with her round of 55, one stroke ahead of Paige Bihn. Shelby Acheson shot 58 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
Kim Hart (59) and Alaina Will (64) also competed, but they did not factor into the overall total.
Patriots sweep Indians
Jay County Junior High School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams swept the Union City Indians on Thursday.
The eighth grade team won 25-6, 25-11, while the seventh graders won 25-2, 25-18.
Liz Barnett led the eighth graders with 13 service points, and Kayla Jetmore was second with 11 points while recording a team-high five aces. Eliza Link and Jetmore had two kills apiece, as well. Lani Muhlenkamp’s six assists were a team high.
Trinity Glassford tallied 10 points to lead the seventh graders, who also got eight points and a kill from Lydia Johnson as well as four points apiece from Brenna Schmiesing and Carley Trinidad.

ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade football teams both lost to the St. Henry Redskins on Thursday.
The seventh graders lost 12-0, and dip to 0-5 on the year.
The Tribe’s eighth graders lost 32-20. Reece Wendel had two touchdowns for the Tribe (3-1-1). Alex Gaerke scored the other touchdown.
