INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriot boys will have to avenge a regular-season loss.
The girls will meet a team for the first time this year.
Jay County High School’s boys and girls soccer teams learned of their respective tournament draws Sunday as the IHSAA held its sectional pairing show.
The Patriot boys (5-4-1) will begin the Class 2A Sectional 24 tournament against the Delta Eagles (7-4) at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at Yorktown Sports Plex. Delta topped Jay County 5-4 on Aug. 26 in Muncie. The winner of the sectional quarterfinal will advance to the 7 p.m. Oct. 6 semifinal against either the Burris Owls (7-5) or Eastbrook Panthers (4-6-2).
The Yorktown Tigers (10-2), who finished 14th in the most recent coaches’ poll and beat Jay County 1-0 to win last year’s sectional title, have a bye to the 5 p.m. Oct. 6 semifinal against either the New Castle Trojans (2-9-2) or the Blackford Bruins (3-8). The Trojans and Bruins square off at 5 p.m. Oct. 4.
The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 9.
Jay County’s girls (6-4-1) open Class 2A Sectional 24 with a matchup against the New Castle Trojans (1-11-1) at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at Hamilton Heights in Arcadia. The winner meets Delta (8-5) in the second semifinal set for 7 p.m. Oct. 7.
The first semifinal pits the host Hamilton Heights Huskies (12-3), who were 15th in the most recent state poll, against defending champion Tigers (7-4) at 5 p.m. Oct. 7.
The championship game will be 7 p.m. Oct. 9.
