CELINA, Ohio — Jalyn Bruns keeps adding to her career accolades.
Bruns, a Fort Recovery High School senior, was named Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year following the conference golf tournament Saturday at Celina Lynx Golf Club.
Bruns, who will play for Indiana University – East next season, becomes Fort Recovery’s first girls golf MAC Player of the Year.
Coldwater shot 360 to win the tournament, backing up its 8-0 record during the regular season for the outright conference championship. Versailles totaled 368 for second, and Minster had 392 for third.
Fort Recovery placed sixth with its score of 435.
Bruns led the Indians by shooting 84 to place second overall in the tournament to Coldwater’s Jordan Hemmelgarn’s 78.
Kim Hart shot 116 for the Tribe’s second-best score, with Macy Brunswick (117) and Shelby Acheson (118) rounding out the team total. Alaina Will also competed, but her 128 was not a factor into the team score. Paige Bihn withdrew from the tournament.
Based on her performance in dual matches as well as the conference tournament, Bruns totaled 129 points in MAC matches to earn player of the year honors. Minster’s Layne Voisard was second in points with 125.5.
Bruns was the lone Indian player to earn All-MAC honors.
Boys seventh
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team placed seventh in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at Arrowhead Golf Club.
Two Indians earned all-conference honors, too.
Minster, which was 9-0 in dual matches, completed the title sweep by shooting 331 to win the tournament. The Coldwater Cavaliers and Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays both shot 353, but Coldwater won the tiebreaker to place second.
Fort Recovery and the New Bremen Cardinals had identical scores of 386, but the Indians held the tiebreaker based on their No. 5 golfer. Zander Kunkler’s 101 was five strokes better than New Bremen’s Tyler Paul.
Cole Muhlenkamp led Fort Recovery with his score 92, and he finished as All-MAC honorable mention with 106 points for the season. Eli Lennartz’s 96 was second, and Isaac LeFevre shot 98. LeFevre ended with 104 points to also earn honorable mention All-MAC honors.
Carson Siefring shot 100 to round out the team score.
Kunkler (101) and Alex Dues (106) did not factor into the overall score.
