Obituary
Gerry Lee Allen, age 77, a resident of Portland, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Gerry attended Redkey and Muncie schools, and served six years in the Indiana National Guard as a staff sergeant.
Gerry was a small engine mechanic for 35 years at Acker Small Engine and HiWay 3 Hardware in Muncie. He retired after six years in the maintenance department of Jay County Hospital. He was a Dunkirk volunteer fireman for many years, and was fire chief for two years. He joined the Dunkirk Masonic Lodge in 1977, and was an avid motorcycle rider and the go to guy for his family.
Gerry was born July 6, 1944, in Muncie, the son of Joseph and Esther (Cavanaugh) Allen. He was married on July 29, 1966, to Margaret Jones.
Survivors include:
His wife of 55 years — Margaret Allen, Portland
One son — Chuck Allen (wife: Lisa), Greenfield
Grandchildren — Brittany and Brandon Allen, Joseph and Sarah Alexander, and Dylan Routier (wife: Ashley)
Six great-grandchildren
Three sisters — Anna Ruth Sanders, Elwood, Shirley Stanton, Lafayette and Vickie Baker, Fort Wayne
A special cousin — Bob Bicknell, Redkey
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Robert Michael Beedy.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hillcrest Cemetery, south of Redkey. Masonic services will be conducted by Redkey Masonic Lodge. The family requests facial masks be worn at the service.
Arrangements entrusted to Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home.
