Jay County volleyball places 4th in ACAC

MONROEVILLE — The Patriots had a chance for redemption.
They came up a bit short.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team went 2-2 to finish fourth in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at Heritage.
The Patriots (10-9) went 2-1 in pool play, losing to eventual champion Heritage (25-6, 2-13) before beating Bluffton (25-18, 25-13) and Adams Central (15-25, 25-18, 15-9)
In the third-place match, Jay County lost to Woodlan (27-29, 27-25, 15-8).

Madison Dirksen finished the ACAC tournament with team highs in kills (26) and aces (five), while Abbie Fields and Abby Brunswick ended with 16 kills apiece. Dirksen also had nine total blocks. Brenna Haines tallied 56 digs, and Izzy Rodgers recorded 43 assists.

BERNE — Jay County’s boys tennis team won its regular season finale Monday, topping the South Adams Starfires 3-2.
The victory improves the Patriots to 10-7 (1-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) ahead of the 5 p.m. sectional semifinal at home Wednesday against Randolph Southern.
At No. 1 singles Crosby Heniser defeated Conner Hyman by a 6-2, 6-3 margin, while Abraham Dirksen earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brayden Grandlinard at No. 2 singles. Simon Dirksen won his No. 3 singles match against Dulce Sabio, 6-2, 6-2.
Brothers Gavin and Sam Myers fell to Camden Hyman and Alec Neuenschwander by a 7-5, 7-5 score at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 doubles tandem of Isaac Miller and Austin Dirksen dropped their match with Caleb Selking and Will Mawhorr 6-4, 6-2.
Luke Muhlenkamp and Gage Sims defeated Ian Neuenschwander and Kane Sturwold 8-1 in their junior varsity doubles match.
FR tops Shawnee
LIMA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team picked up a 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-10 victory against the host Shawnee Indians on Saturday.
Whitley Rammel totaled 19 kills to lead Fort Recovery (7-6), while Marissa Gaerke added seven kills and a team-high 14 digs. Mara Pearson contributed six kills.
Kennedy Muhlenkamp recorded 16 assists.
