One senior had yet another multi-goal game.

His teammate found the back of the net instead of guarding it.

Cristian Marentes scored twice and Ian Ruiz netted the first goal of his career in helping the Jay County High School boys soccer team to a 4-0 victory against the Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.

The Patriots’ victory, their third in four games, improves the season record to 6-4-1.

Marentes scored twice for his fourth multi-goal game of the year, extending his team-lead to 10.

Ruiz, typically a goalkeeper tasked with keeping the ball out of his net, gave up his keeper duties in recording the first goal of his career on a penalty kick. Gavin Muhlenkamp also had a goal for the Patriots.

HARTFORD CITY — Jay County’s girls soccer team shut out the Blackford Bruins on Tuesday, 5-0.

It was Hardman’s first career goal.
