PONETO — The Patriots climbed up the conference standings.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team swept the host Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday, 25-5, 25-11, 25-13.
The win improves Jay County to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in Allen County Athletic Conference play. The Patriots moved into a tie with Woodlan for third place in the conference behind Heritage (5-0) and South Adams (5-1).
Jay County hosts Heritage on Thursday.
Madison Dirksen led the Patriots with 13 kills, and Abbie Fields ended with a half dozen kills. Madison Brunswick chipped in four kills.
Brenna Haines (11 digs) and Grace Brewster (10 digs) paced the JCHS defense. Brewster posted a team-high 22 points as she was 24-of-25 from the service line.
Izzy Rodgers totaled 22 assists.
Jay County’s junior varsity team won, 25-15, 25-17. Bella Denton tallied five kills and Meredith Dirksen had four kills. Maggie Dillon led the squad with 10 points and eight digs.
Tribe takes third
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team placed third Tuesday in a three-team match with the St. Marys Roughriders and St. Henry Redskins at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
St. Marys shot 158 for first, with St. Henry placing second with 173. Fort Recovery totaled 187.
Isaac LeFevre shot 42 to lead the Indians (3-12). Carson Siefring carded 45 for second, and Eli Lennartz finished with 49 for third on the team. Zander Kunkler shot 51 to complete the team score.
Cole Muhlenkamp (54) and Alex Dues (56) also competed but did not factor into the overall total.

PONETO — The Jay County seventh grade volleyball team picked up a 25-16, 25-21 victory against the Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.
Brenna Schmiesing totaled eight service points to go with one kill. Ella Rigby was second with six points while adding a team-high two kills.
Trinity Glassford collected four points, and Chloe Byrum tallied three points.
