Jimmie Stipp
July 4, 1940-April 9, 2023
Jimmie L. Stipp, age 82, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Jimmie was born on July 4, 1940, in Portland, the son of Clarence and Lilly (Freyburger) Stipp. He worked as a self-employed carpet layer as well as for Champion Homes and Sheller-Globe, and retired from the City of Portland Street Department. Jimmie served on the Portland Fire Department for 50 years from 1970 to 2020. Jimmie also built homes, building five homes that he and his family lived in.
Jimmie was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland.
He married Betty J. Thomas on Sept. 23, 1967.

His wife of 55 years — Betty Stipp, Portland, Indiana
His children — Bonnie Vorhees, Celina, Ohio, Lori Thomas, Fort Myers, Florida, James Stipp (wife: JoDee), Marysville, Michigan, and Michael Thomas (wife: Kim), Portland, Indiana
Sister — Edith Dickey, Portland, Indiana
Eleven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Stipp; and a son, John Stipp.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Hugh Kelly will officiate and burial will follow at Center Cemetery, west of Portland.
Memorials may be directed towards Fellowship Baptist Church, Jay County Cancer Society and or Portland Volunteer Fireman’s Association.
