Joann Vormohr

Joann M. Vormohr, age 93, of Portland passed away Thursday morning, April 13, 2023, in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was born in Union City, Indiana, on April 2, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Beatrice (Lauber) Schmitt. She was married on June 12, 1954, to Joseph F. Vormohr and he passed away on Jan. 7, 2000.
Joann was a RN-BSN, 1948 Fort Recovery High School graduate and Mount Saint Joseph Collage graduate in Cincinnati. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with family. She was especially known for her pie baking.
Surviving are four sons, Frank Vormohr MD (wife: Marcie) of Portland, Steve Vormohr (wife: Lisa) of Brookville, Indiana, David Vormohr MD (wife: Monique) of Hilton Head, S.C., and John Vormohr of Portland; five daughters, Jo Ellen Vormohr MD of Portland, Mary Weidenbacher (husband: Buster) of New Orleans; Barbara Grider (husband: Mark) of Indianapolis, Ann Walker (husband: Brad) of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Virginia Dilk (husband: Philip) of Carmel, Indiana; three brothers, Ed Schmitt, Dennis Schmitt and John Schmitt; three sisters, Barbara Yannelli, Rose Marie Molner and Bernadette Schmitt; 22 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Logsdon presiding. Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
