Lost control
A Union City man lost control of his vehicle driving on county road 300 East, causing him to hit two poles on the side of the road about 6:19 a.m. July 26.
Justin R. Schwieterman, 34, was driving his 2005 Lexus north on the road just north of county road 800 South when he noticed a large bin on the side of the road. Schwieterman told police he thought it was a deer and swerved, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and drive off the east side of the road into two poles.
Schwieterman had a sore shoulder from the crash. He refused medical treatment on the scene. Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000. His vehicle was towed.
Rear ended
A Berne man crashed his truck into a Portland man’s truck at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Indiana 18 in Jay County about 6:50 p.m. Friday.
Burton D. LeFever, 18, Berne, was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 south on U.S. 27 near Indiana 18 when he crashed into the back of a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by 62-year-old Darrell L. Upp of Portland. Upp was stopped at the intersection.
Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
