FORT WAYNE – The course was damp.
Most holes had standing water.
That didn’t affect one Patriot freshman, who played her best match of the season.
Brooklynn Bright shot her best match of the year as the Jay County High School girls golf team shot 220 for fourth place in a four-team match at McMillen Golf Course.
South Adams took first in the match with a score of 202. Heritage and Woodlan narrowly edged Jay County with scores of 217 and 219 respectively.
Bright recorded three bogeys on the fifth, seventh and eighth holes. She finished with a 55, the second best score for the Patriots (0-4) in the match. In the previous two invitationals, she shot 64.5 per nine holes, making Monday’s performance about a 10-stroke improvement.
Maddy Snow was the only Patriot to par in the match, finishing the seventh and eighth hole with only three strokes. Her score of 50 was the best of all Jay County golfers.
Both Julia Arnold and Addy Hinton of South Adams shot 49 to share the title of match medalist.
Whitney McItnire also had her best match of the year, shooting a 56, including a bogey on hole No. 4.
Meah Devoe rounded out the Patriots’ score with a 49. Devoe’s only bogey came on hole No. 1.
Brooklyn Zimmerman’s score of 62 did not count towards the team score.

The Patriots’ top golfer was Reagan Brewer, who shot a 39, only four over par.
Ella Schoen was the second-best golfer for the Indians in the match, as a par on the 401-yard sixth hole and a quartet of bogeys helped her to a 53.
Emma Will, Ella Westgerdes and Marrisa Schoen all shot 55s in the match to round out Fort Recovery’s score. Marrisa also shot for par hole No. 3 while Will and Westgerdes each added a bogey on holes No. 9 and 4 respectively.
