Richard Miller

June 17, 1941-Aug. 24, 2023


Richard “Hefty” N. Miller, 82, of Churubusco passed away on Aug. 24, 2023, at his home.

He was born on June 17, 1941, in Jay County to the late Charles “Ben” and Hazel (McAfee) Miller. He spent his formative years in Jay County and graduated from Portland High School in 1959.

Richard was a devoted husband, to the late Connie Jean Miller. They were married in Kimmell on Sept. 3, 1965, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2014.

Known for his charismatic personality and loving nature, Richard made a profound impact on everyone he met. He was a hardworking man, spending his career at Dana Corp, Fort Wayne. Richard retired in 1997, after 33 years of dedicated service.

Richard’s passion extended beyond his work. He was an avid fan of Indiana University basketball, Indianapolis Colts football, Notre Dame football and NASCAR, dedicating much of his time and energy to cheering on his favorite teams.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jim) Crowell; his siblings, Marilyn (Dick) Moon, Donald (Kay) Miller and Jon (Cindy) Miller; and his grandchildren, Katherine and Matthew Crowell.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Miller; and a sister, Roberta Miller.

A public calling will be held in honor of Richard at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jay County, on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at 11 a.m.
