CELINA — It just wasn’t the Indians’ day.
Marion Local’s Grant Kramer gave the Flyers the edge they needed to prevail against the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team on Monday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Kramer’s 39 was the match-low and led Marion Local to a 176-179 victory over the Indians.
Fort Recovery (3-5, 2-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) got its best scores from Keegan Muhlenkamp and Nate Jutte. Both players posted 44s in the match.
Muhlenkamp spread four pars out throughout his round on the first, third, fifth and ninth holes.
Jutte added three pars as well, but the strength of his match was limiting holes where he shot double-bogey or worse. He had the least amount of double-bogeys among the Indian golfers with only two, without shooting a single triple-bogey.
Only one stroke higher was Alex Dues with 45. Dues had a slow start to the round, including when he took seven strokes on the par-4 third hole, but picked up his play near the end. He finished the match with three pars and a bogey on the last four holes.
Eli Lennartz had the final qualifying score for Fort Recovery. Two pars and four bogeys led him to 46 strokes in the match.
Reece LeFevre and Matthew Romer’s scores did not contribute to the team score. LeFevre finished with 48 strokes while Romer had 51.
Four players competed in exhibition alongside the varsity match. Among the four, Marion Local’s Carter Kuess shot the best score with 46.
For the Indians, Reece Evers shot a 54 while Caleb Smith had 55.
