Jay Co. Junior High stays perfect

Local roundup

MUNCIE — Karsyn Schwieterman and Charlee Peters have been projecting a bright future for Patriots basketball.

Next to no one has been able to stop them, but rather teams have only been able to slow them down a little bit. The Titans were no exception.

The Jay County Junior High School girls basketball teams swept the Northside Middle School Titans on Monday with the seventh grade team pulling off a 37-5 victory, while the eighth grade team won 36-14.

Once again, Peters and Schwieterman scored in double figures, with the latter putting up 17 and the former with 14.

Other scores for the Patriots (10-0) came from Kendall Schemenaur who found the basket twice and Claudia Dirksen who added one hoop.

The eight graders (9-1) also had a double-digit scorer as Natalie May dropped 15 on the Titans. Kylie Shannon was just one point shy, finishing with nine.

Adding to the total were Elizabeth Brunswick (six), Amelia Heath (four) and Amara Crawford (two).

Boys split

The Jay County boys basketball team split with the Blackford Bruins on Monday, with the seventh grade team winning handily (46-32) and the eighth graders falling in a one-point nailbiter (35-34).

The Patriots (8-1) exploded in the second quarter for 19 points while holding the Bruins to just five. From there, they only needed to maintain the lead.

Andrew Crump was the leading scorer with nine points.

Paul Dirksen, Kellan Kirby and Sam Wiggins were all right behind Crump with seven each.

Other scores came from Jacoby Penrod (six), Brody Collins (four), Carter Lloyd (three) and Rayden Sollars (three).

The eighth graders (7-2) only managed two points in the first quarter, but their defense kept them in the game only allowing Blackford to score four.

The Patriots trailed Blackford by one point at the end of the other three quarters, falling just short of a way to get ahead of the Bruins.

Raif Beiswanger scored a team-high 10 points in the loss. Nick Snow was only one basket away from double figures, finishing with eight points.

Also contributing offensively were Tyler Wasson (seven), Kadyn Carpenter (five) and Brayden O’Brian (four).
