Helen Williams

Helen I. Williams, age 82, of Decatur and former Portland resident passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, in Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.

She was born in Portland on Sept. 8, 1941, the daughter of Isaac and M. Frances (Long) Haines. She was named after her mother’s close friend Helen Irene Stoner. Helen was married on June 4, 1960, to Richard L. Williams and he preceded in death on Jan. 31, 2018. She was a 1959 Portland High School graduate and member of New Life Ministries in Portland. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing euchre, word searches and watching Game Show Network. She was a great cook and baker.

Helen is survived by her daughter Amy Coyne (husband: Christopher) of Decatur; brother Allen Haines (wife: Vicki) of Portland; two granddaughters, Ella Coyne and Hannah Coyne of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nell Miller.

A celebration of life services will be held on Jan. 14, 2024, at 4 p.m. in New Life Ministries, 415 S. Helen St., Portland, with Dr. Kay Fields presiding. Memorials can be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
