Fort Recovery will purchase a new bus

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Local Schools will be getting a new bus.

Fort Recovery School Board approved a resolution Monday to participate and authorize Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council to advertise and receive bids for a new bus. 

Treasurer Deanna Knapke explained to school board members the bus will cost between $123,000 and $124,000. She noted prices have jumped significantly, with the same bus priced at $106,000 in 2022, $93,000 in 2020 and $89,000 in 2019.

Also Monday, school board members Anne Guggenbiller, Sean Kahlig, Jake Knapke, Nick Wehrkamp and Don Wendel:

•Hired or renewed contracts with employees, including new middle school English language arts teacher Breana Madaj.

•Accepted resignations from middle school English teacher Jessica Niekamp and part-time custodian Denise Bruns.

•Set preschool tuition fees, which stayed at the same rate, and elementary and middle school student fees.

•OK’d lunch prices for the 2023 to 2024 school year. Lunches will cost $2.35 for preschoolers through fifth graders, $2.60 for sixth graders through high school seniors and $3.70 for adults. Entrees alone cost $1.60. 

•Authorized the superintendent and treasurer to enter into food procurement contracts that exceed $15,000 through the Educational Purchasing Council consortium bid process.

•Approved transferring $400,000 from the general fund to the permanent improvement fund and $100,000 from the general fund to termination benefits fund.

•Accepted $499 in donations.
