Nominate a Purdue staff member
Purdue University is accepting nominations for the 2023 Frederick L. Hovde Award of Excellence, an award given annually to a member of Purdue’s staff who has displayed outstanding educational service to rural Indiana.
Nominees may serve any college, school, division or unit in any faculty or staff position. The recipient will receive $800 and a plaque. The award, which has been given annually since 1972, is sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Inc., in appreciation of Purdue’s seventh president, Hovde.
Nominations are due by noon Sept. 1 and should be submitted via email at [email protected].
Free concert
An award-winning blues group will be performing in Muncie this weekend.
Tommy Castro and The Painkillers will play beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday at Canan Commons in downtown Muncie.
Castro, a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, has released 16 albums over his career. His songs vary, ranging from soul to rock and roll. In 2022, Castro and his group, The Painkillers, won the Blues Music Awards for Album of the Year, Band of the Year and for the third time the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. The Painkillers have been playing together for more than seven years.
Castro’s performance in Muncie is a part of the 2023 Muncie Three Trails Music Series, a nonprofit partnership between Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, Muncie Arts and Culture Council, and Rick Zeigler, series founder and organizer.
