Jay County Heritage Festival’s theme has been set for this year.
“Salute to Law Enforcement”?will honor police and those involved in Jay County law enforcement during the festival, which is set for 11 am. to 4 p.m. Sept. 23 and Sept. 24.
The annual festival celebrating heritage offers ham and beans cooked over an open fire Saturday and chili heated in an iron pot Sunday. Footlong hot dogs, sandwiches, ice cream, pie and caramel corn will also be available.
Those wishing to be a vendor, demonstrator or re-enactor at the festival may contact Jay County Historical Society.
Golden Hoosier
Nominations are open for the 2023 Golden Hoosier Award.
The program, now in its 16th year, honors senior Indiana residents for their lifetime of service and commitment to their communities. The program is a collaboration between Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch’s office and Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging.
To be eligible, the nominee must currently be an Indiana resident, age 65 or older and have been a volunteer in the community for the past three years. The deadline for submitting applications is July 9. Nomination forms can be accessed by visiting in.gov/lg/lt-governor-initiatives/golden-hoosier-award.
