JoEllen “Jody” Vormohr, age 68, of Portland passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, in IU Health Jay.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 3, 1955, the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Joann (Schmitt) Vormohr. She graduated from Indiana University Medical Center in 1980 and began her medical residency and practice in San Francisco.
She moved back to Portland in 2015 to specialize as a hospitalist at Jay County Hospital and to care for her mother. Jody retired from medicine in June 2022.
Jody was a wonderful caring person who loved her patients. She loved nature, cooking, her cats and just caring for people and family in general. She was loved by her family and so many others.
She was a 1973 Portland High School graduate and also graduated from Mt. Saint Joseph University and IU Medical School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Surviving are four brothers, Dr. Frank Vormohr (wife: Marcie) of Portland, Steve Vormohr (wife: Lisa) of Brookville, Dr. David Vormohr (wife: Monique) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and John Vormohr of Portland; four sisters, Mary Weidenbacher (husband: Buster) of New Orleans, Barbara Grider (husband: Mark) of Indianapolis, Ann Walker (husband: Brad) of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Virginia Dilk (husband: Philip) of Carmel; several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in the Green Park Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Jay County Humane Society.
